hi everybody.
according to my papers i have Phelsuma Modesta leiogaster and Phelsuma Modesta isakae in possesion
i have made good photo's for the determination on which specie is which.
here are the photos:
PHOTO 1:
Phelsuma Modesta leiogaster: Offspring from Eberhard Krausz
PHOTO 2:
Phelsuma Modesta isakae: Offspring from the Offspring from Magnus Forsberg.
a little difference why i think that the isakae is isakae.
the basecolour is blue instead of green like the leiogaster.
please let me know which specie is which
i think that i should keep them as i bought them.
but i am interested in your opinion.
all the best,
jeroen de kruyk from holland

yes of course, the way i have put them above , that they are as they are, right ??m.roesch hat geschrieben:Hi Jeroen,
I think you should know what i'm meaning about them.

that's what magnus forsberg also said to me..
i saw that thomas hoffman keeps modesta modesta. i really want to see a picture from that one. but i want some more opinions.
Ivan says that they are all modesta (1 specie) and with more colour variations.
Stephan

can someone translate that for me please,
i only have basic german.
thank you in advance,

@stephan, i really don't have a clue about the mixedform within the modesta group. the phelsuma came from magnus forsberg and that is related to the animals that Marcus Fölling bred the first time (these where also wildcaught and mine is CB but only a few generations later) according to my information it should be isakae. bred by a Englishman, that have said on phelsumwebforum that he has modesta isakae. i have to search for this topic on that website.

Dear Jeroen,
I apologize for my late reply.
I wasn't online for a few days and so I read your question just now.
It's very difficult to describe the differences between the subspecies of modesta.
Travelling in southern Madagascar it's no problem to distinguish the populations from each other. The Tulear population differs from the Ambovombe population, Ambovombe differs from Taolagnaro and Taolagnaro differs from Isaka and so on.
One can say: travelling from West to East (or: from dry to humid climate)
the animals become more colourful by increasing humidity. My additional impression was, that the southwestern populations tend to have longitudinal red stripes, while the southeastern animals seem to have more or less red dots.
The exact problem is: In every population every single specimen differs
from each other superficially. You will almost never find two specimens
on a garden fence that have the the same colouration. The only exception is modesta isakae. All the males I've seen at Isaka had the same bright blue head mask and the same blue tail.
The next problem is: The offspring of all modesta ssp. held in captivity
become dull coloured!
Another problem: All modesta ssp. will crossbreed in captivity, I think!
No one can say, that there is no intergradation in captivity, intentional
or unintentional ...
Looking at the pictures you provided I would say, you have no isakae!
You should keep them as modesta ssp.
If you want more information about modesta, you should contact our IG member Jens Krüger, who is the specialist in lineata and modesta.
Hope I could help a little
Gerd

Mensch Peter,
Ick freue mir schon druff!
Nichts für ungut
